Tony, I wish I got to know you more personally or even got the chance to tell you how much you have changed my life, and many others that were involved in the Zappos Adaptive journey. A cemetery is a very valuable place, many people take their ideas with them without ever having the opportunity to bring them to fruition, or even share them with others. Through your leadership and your passion to bring on change you allowed us to follow OUR passion and take OUR ideas and bring them to life.
Zappos Adaptive started from a single phone call, a phone call that changed my life forever. You gave us the opportunity to do good in this world, to do something that REALLY matters, to do something that REALLY helps people, to do something that that will live on even after we have gone (who gets that opportunity!!!). I remember presenting Zappos Adaptive to the company at one of our amazing All Hands. Nervous as hell, not sure how people would accept it and most importantly what you will think about it. Those practice sessions with you were torturous for me, always trying to look for some type of confirmation from you that what we doing here is right. But you had that gazed look on your face and my nerves were shot. After I presented at the All Hands, you mentioned my name and Zappos Adaptive as an example of what we trying to do at Zappos with Holocracy. That is ALL I needed to hear and I knew this would be a success. I know it sounds silly, but it made me proud, very proud. Even prouder was having Zappos Adaptive included in The Power Of WOW on Page 215. Yes, I remember that page forever (even secretly game myself the nickname "215").
Tony, I am sure you will change how heaven is managed (having a quiet little chuckle thinking about it). I know you will help all those that took their ideas with them to live them and run with them. You will be part of ME forever, because you changed me in a way I don't think anyone else could. Rest in peace Tony, you deserve it !
